Gamprs are an extremely rare breed of Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) from Armenia. They bond closely with their primary owners, and guard whatever belongs to them. They are a landrace, so there is significant variation within the breed, and they remain quite primitive and naturally vigorous in structure and temperament.

All will guard very effectively against animal predators, and many are also protective against unknown people outside the family. Their sweetness and gentleness with their own people and animals is incredible to witness. Our female, Karine, has been known to nurse young goat kids.

Like all LGD breeds, they require secure fencing or an extremely large acreage to patrol, as they will naturally seek to expand their territory and keep predators as far back as possible. Puppies take a long time to mature, and some may not be fully reliable with livestock until 2 years of age.

We are working hard to bring this wonderful breed to Canada. To my knowledge the only gamprs currently in the country are ones that we have imported. If you would like to learn more about the breed, please have a look at www.gampr.org, and feel free to contact us with any questions!
